The Packing Guide You’ve Been Looking For

Hi girlies, I have missed yall! It seems like forever since I have last posted.
I am currently packing for a weekend in Austin, and taking a quick break to write this post for you guys! While I was packing I thought hey this would be a great idea for a blog post, so here we are with my packing guide! Pretty last minute I got invited by my best friend to join her cousin and a bunch of their friends to hang out in Austin for the weekend. They rented a party barge and just invited a bunch of their friends. The only solid plan I know is that we’re doing that on Saturday, but everything else is up in the air. So this leaves me in kind of a packing rut.

If you are anything like me you need a plan, and love to have things organized and know what the heck you’re doing! Well this weekend is the complete opposite, but I’m just trying to roll with it (key word try)

So how does a girl pack for a weekend when she has no idea what she’ll be doing?

As a girl, I think overpacking is in our blood, and I am determined to not overpack this time! Like c’mon I will be in Austin less than 24 hours I do not need 4 different rompers!

Here is my packing guide to help you guys out for any future weekend plans that you’re really unsure of what you will be doing.

Plan your outfits

This is my number one rule for packing. I always like to put all my possible outfits on my bed to see what goes with each other, and possibly narrow down a few options. This comes in handy when you’re trying to pack light because you can see what tops can share bottoms, shoes and even jewelry.

Be reasonable

While you’re packing try your hardest not to think of the craziest situation that will somehow justify packing rainboots and a winter coat. Think about what you might actually do, and pack for those occasions. So if the group of people you’re spending time with always go hiking, then pack tennis shoes. Or maybe the crowd you’re hanging out with is more prone to bar hoping then bring a comfy/cute pair of sandals. If you actually sit down and think about it, you can more than likely come up with possible plans.

Limit the shoes

What did I just say? Limit the babies, no way Jamie! I know, I know but trust me! Packing multiple pairs of shoes will take up so much space in your bag. This might be very hard for a lot of you, but trying to only pack 2 pairs of shoes will save you so much space! Bring one pair of comfortable shoes, and then another more dressy pair for dinner, of if you go out at night.

Be an outfit repeater

Although Kate warned us not to, while watching The Lizzie McGuire movie (I pray you get this reference) outfit repeating can be a life savor on those unplanned weekend trips! Not saying to wear the same t-shirt dress every day, but no one will notice if you re-wear the same pair of ripped jeans two days in a row.

No specifics

This is probably the most vital piece of advice I can give you, and something I live by. TIP: Don’t pack a really nice outfit, and then a graphic tee and yoga pants. My biggest tip while packing for a weekend you’re unsure about, is to pack pieces that are diverse. Bring one t-shirt dress that can be dressed up for dinner with wedges, or worn with your favorite pair of converse while walking around the city. That way you have one piece to work for every possible situation! This will save you room in your suitcase, and you will spend less time picking out your outfit in the hotel, and more time enjoying yourself!

My biggest tip that has saved me from over-packing lately is to pack what you WANT to wear! If you feel most comfortable wearing a graphic tee and ripped denim to the bars, then pack that! Or if your wedges and peplum top make you feel at home while walking around the city then wear that! You do you girl. Personally, I used to always want opinions on what my friends were packing so as I could pack accordingly, but that’s just craziness. And I would always end up bringing too many options to go with my friend’s possible options.

This time, I packed what I felt most comfortable in and what I was excited to wear throughout the weekend.

Did I miss anything? What are your favorite packing tips + tricks?

xx, Jamie
