Spring and summer have been chalked full of fun trends! Between the Parisian neck scarf (my favorite here) or the ever popular straw bags, there is a trend for everyone! With so many trends going about, there is usually a few that are not quite my taste or something that I can’t get behind. This season, that trend was a midi skirt.
Being a petite gal (I am 5’2 for reference) I figured that a midi skirt was not a flattering length for my shorter frame. My mom is also petite, and even shorter than me. Fun fact: my dad is about 6’3 so don’t really know where those genes ran off too. Growing up, having a mom and sisters on the shorter side, I saw what length was flattering for petite ladies! Calf length never made the cut.
Whether it was scrolling through Instagram, or browsing other blogs I noticed that midi skirts always looked extremely flattering on tall ladies. It took me such a long time to even actually try on a midi skirt, and even longer to find one that didn’t overwhelm my body type.
One night I was out shopping with a few co-workers and decided to give the midi skirt another try. I will say, I got lucky and found this one in the first store we hit! I was pleasantly surprised at how much I absolutely loved this skirt. The length was just right, so I quickly snatched it up!
For you shorter ladies like me here are a few tips I have for styling a midi skirt:
Add height with heels. Remember how I said that tall ladies were rocking the midi skirts? Add your favorite pair of heels and add a bit of length to your frame.
Pair with fitted or cropped hem tops. If you’re going for a more flowy skirt like the one I’m wearing, you’re going to want a fitted top, or cropped hem to balance out everything.
Go for the high waisted skirt: I would suggest always sizing down as a petite purchasing a midi skirt. Get the ones that are going to sit right above your waist, and give you a little more length. Also, always opt for the shortest length! I’ve noticed there are a few different lengths of midi skirts – so get the shortest hems!
Petite option: Bonus if you can find a store that offers petite sizing! (ASOS is my favorite)
I rounded up a bunch of options for you below!
