As many of you know I adopted Quinn my senior year of college! As expected my parents were anything but thrilled because they thought I was going to be even more broke, and unfocused the semester of college when it mattered the most. Well, they were partially correct. I really had no clue what it took to be a dog owner, and I learned a ton along the way. All trial and error really! The first decision I had to make was what kind of dog food I was going to buy for Quinn!
It’s tough to know what dog food to choose as a pet owner. Quinn was the first pet that I had 100% full responsibility of. Both terrifying and exciting. With that, came picking a food that had quality ingredients and something she would actually like! Purina® Pro Plan® Focus was the first dog food I ever gave Quinn. I started her on Purina® Pro Plan® for puppies, and she absolutely loved it! I loved that it is the 1st dry dog food brand with real meat as the #1 ingredient. My sister had just adopted a puppy of her own around the same time as I got Quinn, and she told me about Purina® Pro Plan®. Growing up our family dog ate Purina, so I definitely have been a Purina fan for so long! Purina is backed by 85+ years of research with over 500 scientists globally working.
Catahoula’s are known for their skin allergies. Which is comedic since I had eczema all growing up, and still have chronic allergies. So we’re definitely two peas in a pod! Because of her skin, my vet recommended I stick to a salmon diet for Quinn. Finding a dog food that is made of quality ingredients, and with salmon is pretty tough. Most brands usually only carry popular proteins like chicken and beef.
We started with the Purina® Pro Plan® Focus for puppies, and throughout the past few years have tried a ton of different dog food brands. Quinn is extremely picky about her food, and it’s tough for me to find something that she will actually eat. Hence why I have tried SO MANY dog food brands. Quinn is now 3 and we are back to Purina® Pro Plan® Focus! They offer a salmon and rice formula which is perfect for Quinn’s allergies, and I love that we can find Purina at Petsmart. She has been eating the salmon recipe for the last 6 months or so and she loves it! I grabbed the lamb and oatmeal formula last week for her to try since oatmeal is supposed to be really good for doggies skin! Why I chose the Focus line from Purina is because it is formulated with key ingredients to support specific nutritional needs based on life stage, lifestyle, breed size or other unique needs. Since Purina® Pro Plan® Focus has a formula specific to an adult dog with sensitive skin it is so easy to find exactly what I need!

Now let’s talk about shopping! This is a style blog after all.
The first day I brought Quinn home we headed straight to Petsmart to get all the puppy essentials! That day was one of my top 3 favorite memories with my Quinny babe! She sat in the cart and we walked around picking out which toys and treats she wanted. I love how everyone at Petsmart is super helpful, and genuinely loves animals! Petsmart is my go-to for all things Quinn related. She genuinely loves going, and as soon as we park she knows where we are! She immediately starts going crazy and barking in the car. Even if I’m only going to pick up one thing I make sure I bring her with! It’s such a fun experience for her. She knows she’s going to get to sniff all the smells, and leave with a treat from the register!
In addition to shopping at Petsmart, I love going on hikes and playing at the dog park with Quinn. When adopting a dog I wanted a medium sized dog so that we could go on hikes together, and be active. Quinn and I have been on a ton of hikes – it’s our favorite thing to do together! We also love spending the day at a dog park, and finding dog-friendly spots in Houston! It’s so important to me that Quinn loves her food, and gets enough fuel before a full day of activities! I try to make it a habit of bringing her to a dog park at least 2-3x a month, and we always stop at Petsmart before! I let Quinn pick out a new treat, or toy and we bring it to the dog park with us!
Quinn is a really smart dog, and she knows as soon as I put on any type of athletic wear we are going somewhere fun! Once I’m dressed she is ready to go that instant! Which means she ignores her food in her bowl and is ready at the door. I make sure to always pack up a bag of her Purina® Pro Plan® Focus, and bring it with us! After a full day of hiking, or running around at the dog park I want to make sure she stays fueled.
Let me know in the comments what your favorite thing to do with your dog is! And have you tried Purina® Pro Plan® before?

We order from Chewy. com and their service is spectacular!!! We get different Blue Buffalo types but always grain free, along with Cesar moist food and our dog just loves them!!!
I have always fed my labs Purina Pro plan
They have all lived long healthy lives
And no e have ever had hip dispaisia which labs are pron to have I’m very happy with Pro Plan
Purina ProPlan is not a good dog food… There are better brands which are more biologically appropriate… You should always prefer grain-free food and preferably with no meat subproducts and with freeze dried raw meat…
There is research out not that is showing a relationship of grain free foods and diet-related dilated cardiomyopathy. Purina Pro Plan is in fact one of the few foods that is not showing dogs getting low taurine (amino acid) and DCM. The low taurine in grain free foods seems to be related to those foods having pea/legume and or potato in their ingredients which seems to keep the dog from using the taurine. Purina is one of the few companies that does feeding trials. http://vetnutrition.tufts.edu/2018/11/dcm-update/?fbclid=IwAR16hJtpaBiO3RcolQhCnbyOKwXbGgxQcTC-lu3gfmQHJ-2BtZWz8C6k8zA

I just recently started my girl (dog) on Purina ProPlan Salmon for sensitive skin & digestion. Recommended by our vet. She absolutely loves it. Had a little trouble finding it in my area but discovered that Tractor Supply carries. Yea!
I have two pets they are dogs and I feed them Taste of the Wild, the grain free Salmon. Very satisfied with this product.
Purina is like the worse food to give your dog horrible! I love blue buffalo!
The only problem with blue buffalo is they have had recalls on there food
I feed wellness core, grain free turkey. Purina is not a good pet food. Best day to feed it because they sell the Purina prescription diet and make profit from it.
My dogs tend to be picky with their food, so I find myself switching up their dog food every so often. After reading your post I think I will try this Purina line next in the oatmeal formula. I’ve heard so many good things about oatmeal being beneficial for their skin. Also Quinn is such a beautiful dog!
