FINAL UPDATE: Clear Skin Journey

Clear Skin Routine. How I cleared up my skin. Skincare products for acne and acne scarring. Healthy healing skin care routine. The Blonder Life

So it’s truly been a WHOLE JOURNEY to clear up my skin. About a full year ago I started obsessing over my skin and for some reason thought it was bad and acting up. I look at those photos now and am truly confused what I saw back then… BUT it DID start to get bad a few months into kind of throwing my routine off and switching up everything trying to get it under control.

It’s been awhile since I’ve shared any type of skin content so I did want to do a final update and routine on my skin journey.

MY PLAN TO CLEAR UP MY SKIN |FIRST SKIN UPDATE + ROUTINE

WHAT MY SKIN LOOKS LIKE CURRENTLY

All the skincare products I’m using now, what I think worked and what I learned through it all.

First my current routine…

Okay, so I brought it way back to the basics and am using a lot of the same products I was using a year ago. Ironic, I know.

MORNING SKINCARE ROUTINE

I splash my face with water, apply a retinol/vitamin C serum, followed by moisturizer and then finally SPF. Boom, done.

NIGHT SKINCARE ROUTINE

I’ve been switching off between this calming cleanser and then this exfoliating cleanser. Both are super gentle, love the ingredients, and a big fan of the brand as well!

After I cleanse *a few nights a week I’ll use this toner * + followed by this hyaluronic acid serum and then finally lock it all in with my moisturizer.

EXTRA PRODUCTS

A few times a month I’ll switch between these masks from Versed depending on what I think my skin needs. Also have been going back in with the cult favorite UFO oil from Sunday Riley. I use when my skin needs an extra boost if I see any type of breakouts forming!

WHAT WORKED AND DIDN’T HURT

Okay, so clearly I am not an expert so I’m just making my best guess for what I think! And with skin it can be hard to pinpoint what exactly worked or didn’t work. But, I think there were a few things I could tell really helped, and them some that didn’t make or break but definitely didn’t hurt!

What worked during my skin journey…

DIET CHANGE | Okay, so this can be in both categories actually. I started restricting/cutting down on added sugar, eggs, dairy, and peanuts to see if internally that would help my skin. *Also – I don’t eat red meat, and only eat chicken on occasion, wanted to note* Although I never saw a huge change immediately of my skin clearing up by cutting out those categories, I DID see a change on when I added them back in.

Still to this day, I do cut back and try to limit those categories because I do feel better when I’m not consuming a lot of dairy, sugar, eggs, etc. Anytime I notice any extra texture it’s almost always after a full day or weekend of consuming a lot of dairy and sugar.

Long story short, cutting back/limiting the categories did NOT drastically clear up my skin, BUT consuming them did make it worse.

FACIALS | Truly, you cannot deep clean your skin and pores like an aesthetician will. In addition to the cleaning factor, your products can’t work as well and really penetrate like they can after a facial! I only had two facials over the span of my skin issues, and every time after, my skin was the best it EVER looked! Finally found someone local that I love, and going to stick with seeing her consistently because my skin looks incredible!

Find someone that will truly address your concerns, and create a plan of action to help fix it!

EXCESSIVE WATER | So, this isn’t going to be a quick fix, but also how could drinking the needed amount of water everyday hurt you? Everything you ever read about water is TRUE. *I also add Chlorophyll drops to my water a few times a week. Linking an article about the benefits!*

CELERY JUICE | A miracle worker for inflammation in general. I noticed a big difference when I was consistent with celery juice weekly!

SPF DAILY | We’re all told we should wear sunscreen on our face daily, but I never listened! I had a lot of pigmentation and scarring that would never go away. Welp, the sun was just making everything worse and literally counteracting any good my products could do! Now I apply SPF every single morning as my last step, and then around 2 PM I re-apply!

What didn’t work during my skin journey…

EXTENSIVE ROUTINE | So my mom is gonna read this and be like I TOLD YOU SO. But I thought I needed a million products to clear up my skin. Now that I’m truly using the LEAST it’s loving me!

What didn’t hurt or make a huge difference during my skin journey…

  • acne balance supplements
  • chlorophyll water
  • satin pillowcase
  • sleeping with my hair up (keeps bacteria off of face)
  • drying my face off with a microfiber towel post wash

And that is it – finally! So much info, I know, but wanted to really jam pack all the tips and healthy information I have!
